  • Lithospheric stress distribution and evolution i

This is a funded project by the Strategic Priority Research Program B of Chinese Academy of Sciences. We would like to bridge observations of the surface deformation, secular and short-term postseismic deformation, with deformation processes of the Sumatra subduction zone. We hope to better understand the lithospheric geodynamics, the crustal stress evolution in particular. We wish to improve our understanding of the stress transfer between the megathrust and active crustal faults, and thus help the earthquake hazard assessments. Research member: Yan Hu, YOU... • Upper mantle rheology from deep earthquakes

In this work, we would like to better constrain the rheological structure and properties near the transition portion of the upper mantle in subduction zones. We used three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element models to study the postseismic deformation of the 2013 Mw8.3 Okhotsk earthquake. • Rheological structures of the mid-lower crust an

In this work, we would like to better constrain the rheological structure and properties of the Eastern Tibetan Plateau and Sichuan Basin. First we calculate the interseismic, coseismic and postseismic displacements from continuous and campaign-mode GPS station for the 2008 Mw 7.9 Wenchuan and 2013 Mw 6.7 Lushan earthquakes. Then, we constructed the layered blocks, fault geometry and source model for the finite element model based on published coseismic slip models of the two events as well as tomographic and magnetotelluric images of eastern Tibetan Plateau, and topographic reliefs of eastern Tibetan Plateau. We use three-dimensional elastic and viscoelastic finite elemen
