Lithospheric stress distribution and evolution in subduction zones

This is a funded project by the Strategic Priority Research Program B of Chinese Academy of Sciences. We would like to bridge observations of the surface deformation, secular and short-term postseismic deformation, with deformation processes of the Sumatra subduction zone. We hope to better understand the lithospheric geodynamics, the crustal stress evolution in particular. We wish to improve our understanding of the stress transfer between the megathrust and active crustal faults, and thus help the earthquake hazard assessments.
