On June 23th, Mr. Yixing Zhang defensed his M.Sc. thesis "2010年Mw8.8 Maule地震震后形变三维粘弹性数值模拟" . In his thesis, Yixing studied the postseismic deformation pattern and dynamic mechanism of the 2010 Mw8.8 Maule earthquake. He established a three-dimensional finite element mesh in this area. Comparing with the postseismic displacement of the GPS network he processed, the optimal numerical model showed the existence of the oceanic asthenosphere in this area, and obtained the stress-driven afterslip distribution. The research results have important significance on understanding the rheological properties of the upper mantle in the subduction zone, the earthquake cycle and the evolution process of the lithospheric stress

Mr Zhiping Hu defensed his M.Sc thesis "2014年MW 8.1 Iquique地震震后上地幔粘弹性松弛和震后余滑的模拟" . In his thesis, Zhiping constructed three-dimension(3D) finite element model of central South America subduction zone and then obtained rheological structure with the constraint of postseismic deformation of 2014 Mw8.1 Iquique earthquake as well as evolution of afterslip following the event. The result is consistent with study on other subduction zones.

Mr Kejing Huang defensed his M.Sc thesis "1964年Mw9.2阿拉斯加大地震的震后形变研究" . In his thesis, Huang optimized a three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element model to study primary processes that control the postseismic deformation of the 1964 event. The model indicates the evolution history of afterslip and its possible relationship with slow slip events. And the far-field GPS observations can be better explained by a combination of the postseismic model and the updated block model.
