The GPS vertical component is more sensitive to the surface loading, while the horizontal components may be controlled mostly by tectonic processes. In this work, we would like to derive the groundwater distribution through GPS vertical displacement in the North China craton, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces in particular. Firstly, we select continuous and campaign-mode GPS stations in these regions. Then, we process the GPS vertical data and remove effects of processes other than the groundwater change. In the end, we invert the corrected GPS data for the groundwater distribution based on the elastic loading theory.
