In May 2024, two graduate students of GRC completed their MSc/PhD programs and graduate from USTC, marking a significant milestone in their academic careers.

On May 21st, Mr. Wei Xu defensed his MSc thesis “Research of rheological structure and properties of the upper mantle in the Mexican subduction zone”.In this work,he constructed a 3D viscoelastic finite element model of the Mexico region, using postseismic deformation following the 2017 Mw8.2 Tehuantepec earthquake to constrain the rheological properties of the Mexican subduction zone. He also used postseismic deformation following the 2020 Mw7.7 Caribbean earthquake to constrain the rheological properties of the Caribbean region.

On May 24th, Mr. Kai Wang defensed his PhD thesis “Deformation following large strike-slip earthquake in plate boundary zone”. This work focused on the 2023 Turkey double earthquakes and 2016 New Zealand Kaikōura earthquake in different plate boundary regions, conducting research on coseismic fault slip distribution, postseismic deformation, rheological structure, and interactions between active faults during major earthquakes. This work led to significant scientific achievements.
