In October 2024, Daiqin Liu and Siyuan Yang successfully defensed their PhD dissertations in USTC, marking a significant milestone in their academic careers.
On October 11th, Dr. Daiqin Liu defensed his PhD thesis “Lithospheric structure and seismodynamic environment of Tianshan and neighboring areas”. He utilized multi-source gravity observation data, combined with various other datasets, to invert the lithospheric structure of different regions and resolutions in the Tianshan and surrounding areas. This research provides critical scientific evidence revealing the deep dynamic mechanisms of the Tianshan region and better understanding of the characteristics of its seismic dynamic environment, holding significant potential applications in earthquake hazards assessments.
On October 16th, Dr. Siyuan Yang defensed her PhD thesis ”Study of coseismic and postseismic deformation, and groundwater change based on the GNSS data”. She systematically analyzed crustal deformation across different plate regions based on GNSS data, revealing mechanisms of earthquake deformation processes and groundwater changes. She studied the coseismic slip and early postseismic distribution of the 2024 Noto earthquake using GNSS data. Three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element models help constrain the rheological structure of the Sumatra region through modeling the postseismic deformation of recent three large earthquakes in this region. The thesis also investigated groundwater changes in the North China Plain and the Shaanxi-Gansu region based on GNSS data through the elastic loading theory.
